A Special Session with N. Sine Ozsoy

This talk will provide a comprehensive introduction to Ayurveda as a holistic lifestyle and health-generating system, moving beyond its contemporary reduction to mere “wellness” trends. We’ll explore practical ways to integrate authentic Ayurvedic principles into daily life, with specific focus on strengthening the immune system in conjunction with Iyengar Yoga practice.

Iyengar Yoga and Ayurveda are naturally complementary disciplines, sharing many foundational principles. The presentation will explain the Gurvadi Gunas (the twenty pairs of opposing qualities) and their profound effects on both mental and physical wellbeing, as well as how they inform yoga practice.

This is an excellent opportunity to discover your own inner compass for health! We’ll also explore how Geeta Iyengar—who was trained in Ayurvedic medicine—transformed women’s yoga by bridging ancient wisdom with contemporary needs. Her revolutionary approach, deeply grounded in Ayurvedic principles, addresses hormonal balance, menstrual health, and life-stage transitions through carefully sequenced asanas, pranayama, and restorative practices.

By aligning yoga practice with the natural rhythms of the female body, Geeta Iyengar developed a scientific approach to self-care that honors both traditional wisdom and women’s unique physiology. This talk will provide insights into this rich tradition and demonstrate how the integration of Iyengar Yoga and Ayurveda can profoundly transform women’s health at every stage of life.
